White Cloud Worlds' Xmas Card

This year I finally had enough energy and time to get round to working up a Xmas card. I always loved Norman Rockwell's and Leyendecker's covers for the Christmas editions of the Saturday Evening Post and so decided to work that style with a more contemporary superhero santa.

Enjoy and a happy new year :)

I often start with just a painted thumbnail and enlarge and detail from there.

Blooom Art Fair Cologne Germany

The same weekend that we were running our first booth at Armageddon Auckland, Paul trekked half way across the globe to run a White Clouds Booth at the prestigious Blooom Art Fair in Cologne. It was a huge event with some 35,000 visitors over 4 days. Highlight photos below :)

Armageddon Auckland 2011

The 'White Cloud Worlds' booth at Armageddon in Auckland this year was a big success! A big thanks to Bill Geradts for hosting us. The booth looked great with all the art prints generating a lot of interest and really drawing people in. The painting demonstrations were also a drawcard and saw a constant stream of people coming through the booth all day. We met some really nice people and viewed some really promising portfolios. Thanks to everyone who visited us! And to top off the coolness of the weekend we also got to meet Frank Cho. Roll on Labour Weekend next year and Auckland Armageddon 2012.

White Cloud Worlds Wins Award

Paul, Claire and Frank attended the Science Fiction and Fantasy Association of New Zealand's annual convention in Auckland on Sunday.  It was a real whirl-wind affair with a couple of quick talks and panels then straight into the banquet and awards before leaving back to Wellington at 5am.

The great news is that White Cloud Worlds was nominated for Best Production/Publication 2011 and we won - hurrah!!! Frank also picked up an award for his cover illustration of Tymon's Flight, so it was a real success all round.

Paul would like to thank the artists, Kate and Harper Collins for their continued support and the SFFANZ committee for the nomination and putting on such a fun event.

Armageddon Wellington 2011

Armageddon Expo rolled into Wellington this weekend and a few of the artists headed down for a signing session at  the Unity Books stall on the Saturday. This was probably the busiest Wellington Expo ever and we were kept busy scribbling for the two hours we were there. We even got a chance to gift a couple of copies to John Rhys Davies (Gimli) and Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck BSG) which was cool!

A big thank you to Cameron and Matt at Unity Books and Bill at Armageddon!

Stu Thomas (barely awake) Christian Pearce, Paul Tobin, Claire Hackett, Dylan Coburn (Cameron and Matt Unity).

WCW Weekend at the Dowse

The 'White Cloud Worlds' weekend hit the Dowse this weekend for artist workshops, one on one artist portfolio review sessions and an artist in residence afternoon. Thanks again to Leanne and the team for a great event. And of course to all the artists who gave up their weekend to help out! The exhibition has been a huge success for the Dowse, everyone from the local primary school to the Waterloo Probus club (retired ladies in their 70's) have raved about it. It is sure to be just as well received at other spots around the country!
